How to Perform Umrah and Its Significance

Performing Umrah: Step-by-Step Guide

  • Preparation and Intention (Niyyah)

Cleanse yourself with Ghusl (full-body purification). Wear Ihram garments: two white cloths for men, modest clothing for women. Make the intention: “Labbayk Allahumma Umrah.”

  • Entering Ihram

Recite the Talbiyah: “Labbayka Allahumma Labbayk…” Avoid prohibited acts: using scented products, cutting hair/nails, marital relations.

  • Tawaf (Circumambulation)

Circle the Kaaba seven times counter-clockwise. Start from the Black Stone, touching or pointing towards it. Recite prayers and supplications.

  • Sa’i (Walking Between Safa and Marwah)

Walk seven times between Safa and Marwah hills. Start at Safa, make supplications, then proceed to Marwah.
Tahallul (Shaving or Cutting Hair)

Men shave or trim their hair; women cut a small portion (a fingertip length). Significance of Umrah
